In an incredible display of sportsmanship and generosity during World Cup 2023, Indian captain Rohit Sharma captured hearts at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as he gifted a pair of his playing shoes to a young fan.

Rohit Sharma shares shoes with young fan after IND vs SL clash

This heartwarming episode unfolded after India's massive 302-run victory over Sri Lanka, a win that not only marked the team's entry into the knockout stages of the ICC World Cup 2023 but also recorded the largest margin of victory in the tournament's ODI history.

As the stadium buzzed with the celebrations of India's stellar performance, Rohit, who is known for his humility and connection with fans, took the time to interact with the spectators.

After the conclusion of the post-match formalities, he was seen engaging with his admirers, capturing moments with selfies, and then, in a gesture that epitomized the spirit of the game, he gifted his shoes to an ecstatic young fan, creating an unforgettable memory for the youngster and the spectators.

The match was an attestation to the Indian team's dominance, with the host nation setting a formidable target by scoring 357 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer were in fine form, contributing significantly to the total with their brisk half-centuries.

Their efforts, however, were challenged by Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka, who claimed an impressive five-wicket haul, joining the elite ranks of Lankan bowlers to have achieved such a feat in the World Cup.

Nonetheless, the Sri Lankan batters found no respite as they faced a relentless Indian bowling attack. Spearheaded by Mohammed Shami's third five-wicket haul in World Cup ODIs, the bowling unit decimated the opposition, skittling them out for a paltry 55 runs.

Mohammed Siraj and the veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah, along with Ravindra Jadeja, contributed to the collapse, sealing the deal for India's leap to the top of the points table.
