Fast bowler Ishant Sharma became only the second Indian seamer to play 100 Test matches. The right-arm bowler was felicitated by the President Ramnath Kovind at the newly-built Narendra Modi Stadium.
Ishant celebrated his 100th Test with a dismissal of Dominic Sibley after he edged a length delivery from the fast bowler to Rohit Sharma at the second slip.
The four-match series is levelled at 1-1 with the remaining two Tests to take place in Ahmedabad. The third Test is a Day-Night affair.
India suffered a defeat in the first match but made a fine return in the second game with a 317-run win in Chennai. Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin scored individual tons while Axar Patel who made his Test debut bagged a fifer.
Captain Kohli had earlier hailed Ishant’s achievement. “It’s a great achievement in modern day cricket. To maintain your body and play 100 Tests, it’s rare to see a pacer have such longevity these days. He could have easily prioritised white-ball cricket but full credit to him that he didn’t,” Kohli said at the pre-match press conference.
