Watch: Mohammed Shami Dismisses Cheteshwar Pujara For A Duck, Celebrates By Hugging Him

Veteran India speedster Mohammed Shami has provided India with a promising start on the second day of the ongoing four-day warm-up game against Leicestershire Foxes at the Grace Road, Leicester.

Notably, to ensure that all the members of the visiting side get to play a warm-up game ahead of their crucial one-off Test against England, four Indian players, namely Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna are playing for Leicestershire.

After declaring their inning for the overnight score of 246 for 8, India got a terrific start as the right-arm quick bowler struck twice with his sizzling pace early in the morning session to remove openers Sam Evans and Cheteshwar Pujara.

In the 9th over of the innings, Shami bowled a good length delivery, which took an inside edge after climbing up and crashed into the middle stump, cleaning up Pujara for a 6-ball duck.

The 31-years old visibly enjoyed Pujara's dismissal as he jumped while running towards Pujara to give him a back hug and warm send-off while he was walking back to the pavilion.

Pujara isn't having the best of times in international cricket as the 34-year-old was dropped from the Indian Test side for the home series against Sri Lanka after a string of poor performances. However, after smashing 4 consecutive tons, including two double centuries for Sussex in the County Championship, he was called up again into the team for the one-off Test against England.

Earlier, India declared their innings for a score of 246-8. The wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat top-scored for the team, having smashed 70 runs and remained unbeaten. Former India skipper Virat Kohli also looked in good touch on the opening day of the Test, scoring 33 before being wiped out by Roman Walker, the uncapped England pacer.

India captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill managed to score 25 and 21, respectively. Hanuma Vihari could score just 3 runs after facing 23 deliveries while Shreyas Iyer couldn't open his run account despite playing 11 balls.

At the time of the writing, Leicestershire is trailing by 145 runs, having scored 101 for the loss of 4 wickets. Apart from Mohammed Shami, Siraj has claimed two wickets as well.

ENG vs NZ | Daryl Mitchell becomes the first Kiwi batter to score three successive Test tons against England

Daryl Mitchell’s performance in the ongoing Test series against England has been phenomenal. The Kiwi batter has absolutely thwarted the English bowling attack throughout the series. In this process, he has reached one milestone after another. The 31-year-old batter registered his third successive ton against England in the final Test, hence setting a new record. The Rajasthan Royals batter became the first New Zealand batter to register three successive centuries against England. Adding to his credit, all three tons have come in the enemy backyard. Walking into bat with the score reading 83 runs for the loss of four wickets, it took a Herculean effort from the Canterbury cricketer to bail out the visitors again in the third Test. Mitchell lasted for over 80 overs, scoring 109 runs off 228 balls to guide his side to a respectable first innings total. On Day 1 of the final Test, Mitchell also became the first Kiwi batter in 73 years to score 400 runs in a Test series against England. He has amassed 482 runs in five innings at a stupendous average of 120.50, way clear of Joe Root, who comes in second with 305 runs. Before Mitchell’s feat, only two players had scored three centuries in a three-match Test series in England. Ken Barrington achieved the feat in 1967 against Pakistan, whereas Graham Gooch achieved the same in 1990 against India. Mitchell’s campaign started with a disappointing knock of just 13 runs in the first innings of the opening Test. However, he put on a show in the second innings, with a spectacular knock of 108 runs. The 31-year-old batter just fell ten runs short off a well-deserved double century in the second Test. The reigning World Test Champions have not been at their best on this tour, yet Mitchell has certainly saved the day for the visitors on several occasions.
