Ishan Kishan was sidelined from India’s squad for their ongoing home T20I series against Afghanistan. Back in December 2023, the cricketer had opted himself out of team’s Test squad for series in South Africa owing to personal reasons.

While initial reports had indicated that Kishan was ignored from Afghanistan fixtures owing to disciplinary reasons, head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that the youngster himself had asked for a break citing mental fatigue.

The 25-year-old also refrained himself from participating in Ranji Trophy 2024 matches for Jharkhand. Amidst all selection drama and question marks over his availability, the cricketer recently took to his social media accounts to share a video of himself performing yoga.

On January 12, Ishan Kishan shared a video of himself performing yoga meditation across his social media handles.

Kishan’s sudden yoga post came on the backdrop of much selection drama involving around his availability for Team India, in a T20 World Cup year no less.

Back in December, the cricketer himself had pleaded to be released from India’s Test squad for the series in South Africa citing mental fatigue owing to excessive travelling. However, he was later spotted partying in Dubai, which prompted several reporters to speculate that the cricketer was purposely sidelined by the BCCI from Afghanistan series owing to disciplinary reasons.

Head coach Rahul Dravid debunked all reports and claimed that Kishan himself had asked for a break.

As of now, it is still unclear as to how long he wishes to extend his mental well-being break, considering the selection committee is about to drop Team India squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Moreover, the series itself will be followed by IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.
