The ongoing season of the Big Bash League has proven to be a memorable cricketing event, not just for the on-field action but also for an incident that unfolded during the clash between the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

TV umpire Paul Wilson found himself in the spotlight as he inadvertently pressed the wrong button, initially ruling Josh Philippe out before correcting the decision.

The incident took place in the third over of the game when Sixers' Philippe played a straight drive off Imad Wasim. However, the ball hit the stumps, prompting the on-field umpire to refer the decision to the TV umpire to check for a run-out.

Despite Philippe being safe, the third umpire mistakenly ruled him out before quickly correcting the error. The blunder left Glenn Maxwell and Josh Philippe amused, but Philippe was eventually dismissed by Scott Boland.

Here's the video of the incident:

The Melbourne Stars set a target of 157 for the Sixers, posting a total of 156/4 in their 20 overs. Tom Fraser Rogers contributed 19 runs off 16 balls, while Dan Lawrence played a crucial innings with 36 runs off 34 balls, including one four and two sixes.

Stars captain Glenn Maxwell provided a quickfire boost with 31 runs off 14 deliveries, featuring four fours and two sixes. The all-round duo of Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright also made notable contributions with 34 and 29 runs, respectively.

The Sydney Sixers bowlers bowled brilliantly, with Todd Murphy being the stand out player by taking two wickets for 15 runs in his four overs. Tom Curran and Ben Dwarshuis also made significant contributions, claiming one wicket each.

In response, the Sydney Sixers chased down the target with 1.5 overs to spare, finishing at 160/3 in 18.1 overs. England's James Vince played a stellar innings, scoring 79 runs off 57 balls, featuring 12 fours. Daniel Hughes supported with a valuable knock of 41 runs off 32 balls, including four fours and one six.

On his return from Test duties, Scott Boland was the standout performer with the ball for the Stars, taking two wickets for 38 runs in his four overs. Imad Wasim and Beau Webster also picked up one wicket each, but the Sixers’ batters managed to achieve the target comfortably.
