In the recent IPL 2024 mini-auction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured the promising talent of Jhathavedh Subramanyan for a notable sum of Rs 20 Lakhs. The 24-year-old leg-spinner, originally hailing from Hong Kong but later finding his cricketing calling in Chennai, has become the latest sensation in the cricketing world.

Subramanyan's journey is nothing short of a cricketing odyssey. Starting his career at the Hong Kong Cricket Club, he pursued further studies in the United Kingdom. The pandemic, however, led him to Chennai, where he embarked on a remarkable chapter in his cricketing career, ultimately landing him a coveted spot in the IPL.

Known for his crafty leg-spin and the ability to bowl left-arm finger spin, Subramanyan showcased his skills during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) final.

Representing Lyca Kovai Kings, he mesmerised spectators by claiming four wickets while conceding only 21 runs. His stellar performance throughout the tournament, amassing 11 wickets at an impressive average of 19.72, marked a breakthrough season for the young spinner.

Subramanyan's cricketing education continued during IPL 2021, where he served as one of SRH's net bowlers in the UAE leg. Learning from the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, he honed his skills, focusing on variations and experimenting with different grips. 

His adaptability and commitment to improvement have earned him praise from seasoned mentors, including Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and S Ramky.

Notably, Sivaramakrishnan not only played a pivotal role in enhancing Subramanyan's bowling skills but also assisted him in acclimating to the Indian cricketing landscape. The influence of these mentors has been instrumental in Subramanyan's seamless integration into domestic cricket.
