The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a good turnout for Afghanistan’s blockbuster World Cup 2023 faceoff against defending champions England. Even though England’s playing XI for the match is filled with a constellation of stars, crowd seems to have their own favorite from the Afghanistan camp.

Prior to the match, a section of the crowd near the boundary elatedly cheered for Rashid Khan, when the star all-rounder was undergoing a fielding session with the rest of his teammates.

Afghanistan legend Rashid Khan took field for his country in their must-win World Cup 2023 match against England in Delhi on October 15. The star all-rounder, who also happens to be a household name among Indian fans owing to his IPL and international exploits, became the center of attraction for an over-enthusiastic Delhi crowd prior to the match.

Rashid Khan responded to the crowd support by scoring 23 crucial runs for Afghanistan in the death overs. His calculated cameo eventually lifted his side to a competitive 284 upfront, after opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had bludgeoned a scintillating 80 at the top of the order.

The match marks a must-win one for Afghanistan, considering they had lost their opening two World Cup 2023 fixtures with heavy margins. For starters, they were bested by Bangladesh in Dharamshala, and were later outplayed by hosts India to be placed at the bottom of the World Cup 2023 points table.
