According to Cricbuzz, Sri Lankan white-ball specialist Wanindu Hasaranga has not registered his name for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. The cricketer was recently released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise on IPL 2024 retention day last week.

It is worth noting that Hasaranga underwent successful hamstring surgery in October, the one he sustained during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament just days prior to the 2023 Asia Cup.

The deadline for player registrations for the IPL 2024 auctions was set for November 30, while the bidding event itself is scheduled to be organized on December 19 in the UAE.

Wanindu Hasaranga, one of the leading spinners of the RCB camp since IPL 2021, was released by the franchise last week to seek “financial flexibility” at the auction. As it turned out, the cricketer has opted himself out of the much-awaited IPL 2024 season by not registering his name for the auctions.

While Hasaranga has not clarified his stance yet, one can assume that the all-round maverick wants to prolong his break from the game in a bid to attain full recovery ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies.

The 26-year-old all-rounder picked up a hamstring injury during the LPL 2023 season earlier this year, which forced him out of Sri Lanka’s subsequent high-profile Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 assignments.

Following his successful hamstring surgery at the Princess Grace Hospital in England, Wanindu Hasaranga took to his Instagram account on October 10 to share his first recovery update with fans. The star all-rounder stated that even though he will be out of action for a while, he is looking forward to overcoming his injury and coming back stronger-than-ever for Sri Lanka in international cricket.
