VVS Laxman calls for building strong bench of skilled coaches and medical staff

VVS Laxman, in a meeting with the BCCI Apex Council, has expressed his concern over the bench strength of coaches and medical staff in Indian cricket.

The NCA chief said that the medical staff and coaches' skills need to be revamped. The former batter highlighted the fear of injuries to players during overlapping tours and busy schedules.

NCA Chief on his vision

"It's still early days here at the NCA but my vision, which has found resonance with my wonderful team at the academy, revolves not just around the players. As much as it is imperative to build a strong bench that the various national teams can draw from as required, it is essential that we build a solid bench when it comes to coaches and other support personnel," said Laxman.

"Given how professional the game has become and how much cricket is being played these days, there is bound to be high demand for top-quality skills and S&C coaches as well as physiotherapists and science medicine experts."

Laxman aims to develop proactive communication with State associations

Laxman added that better communication of NCA with state associations is required to build fine players. The former cricketer feels a perfect synergy needs to be set up between amplifying strength and effective injury management of the players.

Currently, the Indian Team is on a Caribbean Tour, and the first fixture of the ODI series will be played on Friday (22 July) in Trinidad.
