Shubman Gill has made some giant strides across all international formats in the last couple of years. The dynamic opener has plundered five limited-overs centuries, including an ODI double-ton, and an additional two hundreds in Test cricket.

Moreover, Gill also finished the recently-concluded IPL 2023 season as the highest run-getter of the tournament, thus winning the elusive ‘Orange Cap’ with 890 runs to his name.

As it turned out, Virat Kohli has played a hand in Gill’s insurgence, as confirmed by the senior Indian batter himself ahead of the imminent World Test Championship (WTC) final clash against Australia.

Virat Kohli has said that Shubman Gill often seeks his advice and is a keen learner of the sport. The former Indian captain also praised the youngster for possessing an “amazing skill set” at such a young age.

Kohli further talked about Gill’s ability to perform at the highest level, and claimed that the two have a good understanding with each other. During a conversation with the ICC, the Indian batting veteran said:

“Shubman Gill speaks to me a lot about the game, is very keen to learn and has an amazing skill set at his age. He has got an amazing ability and a temperament to perform at the highest level and is confident and we do have that relationship and we do have that understanding based upon respect.

The 34-year-old also believes that Gill will perform well to play a crucial role against Australia in the WTC Final.

“He is a lovely kid and he is playing amazingly well and I wish he continues the same in this Test match.”

Both Kohli and Gill are set to feature in the WTC title shootout against Australia, scheduled to take place at The Oval in London between June 7 and June 11.
