Virat Kohli became only the second batsman in the history of One Day cricket to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs batting at the number three position. He is behind Australia’s two-time world-cup winning captain Ricky Ponting.
Ponting has 12, 662 runs batting at number three for Australia with an average of 42.48 runs per over and a strike rate of 80.7 runs per 100 balls. He, however, has amassed these many runs from 330 ODI games whereas Kohli has reached 10,000 runs in his 190th innings at number three.
Kohli has an astounding average-strike rate combo as his runs have come at a strike rate of 94.2 and average of 63.01.
Below Kohli and Ponting on the list of most-successful number three batsmen in ODIs are Kumar Sangakkara, Jacques Kallis, Kane Williamson and late Dean Jones.
Kohli reached the feat on his way to 66 runs in the second ODI of the series against England. He looked in terrific touch and brought fourth consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODI cricket, but a much-awaited century has been elusive for the Indian skipper for a long time now.
