On Friday, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary announced that they are going to invite applications for the head coach's position for the men's team as Rahul Dravid nears the end of his contract in the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, it is understood that the current coach is reportedly not keen to continue as the coach despite being allowed to re-apply.

Jay Shah announced that the new coach will be offered to take up the job for the next three years, i.e., till the 50-over World Cup in 2027.

Dravid unlikely to re-apply for India's head coach position

Dravid, took over the reins of the senior team in November of 2021 after his successful stint with the U-19 team from 2015 to 2019 followed by his two-year tenure as the head of National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.

Initially, his tenure as the head coach was supposed to end with the 2023 Cricket World Cup but the BCCI decided to offer him an extension till the T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean.

During his time as the national team coach, the Indian side has so far played three major competitions, the T20 World Cup in Australia, 2022 where India crashed out in the semi-final, the final of the World Test Championship (2021-23) where India lost to Australia and the 50-over World Cup in 2023 where India again lost to the Aussies in Ahmedabad.

The ex-India captain would like to end his time as the coach by bringing glory back to India by putting an end to the 11-year ICC trophy drought later in June.
