Two ground staff at the Sooriyawewa Stadium in Hambantota have died because of an elephant attack as per an ESPNCricinfo report. It is reported that the two of them were heading home after finishing off the work when they were attacked outside the stadium on Tuesday.
A Sri Lanka Cricket official told AFP that the bodies of the two groundsmen were found around 500 metres (550 yards) apart.
Furthermore, the ground staff were busy in the preparations for the playoffs and the final of the on-going Lanka Premier League scheduled to be held later this month.
The eliminator and the Qualifier 1 is scheduled to take place on December 19 while the second qualifier will be held on December 21. The title clash of the league is slated to take place on December 23.
