Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, also known as Sir Jadeja to his fans, lived up to the name as he once again took Team India from a position of no hope to a fighting total at Manuka Oval, all on his own. The Saurashtra player was the lone warrior as all the top six members of the Indian batting line up were out when the team’s score was just 114.
Jadeja, then, combined with Washington Sundar, mostly playing all the balls, and trying to maximize every opportunity. On the way, he got injured but did not back down. Rather, just after the injury, he took Josh Hazlewood to the cleaners, scoring 23 off one of his overs.
Twitter’s favorite Indian cricketer was rewarded for his daring as the fans came pouring in to show their support to the all-rounder from Jamnagar.
Jadeja, 31, scored 44 in just 23 balls with the help of 5 fours and a humungous six. It was thanks to him that India reached 161-7 in 20 overs.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Australia had decided to bowl first and got the early wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. Virat Kohli failed once again as he got out to newbie Mitchell Swepson for just 9 runs. KL Rahul scored a fifty but really couldn’t find much support apart from Sanju Samson’s 15-ball 23.
For Australia, Moises Henriques was the pick of the bowlers with 3/ 22 in four overs.
