Australian captain Pat Cummins added yet another jewel to his already glorious crown as he became just the third skipper from his country to win a Test series in Pakistan. Cummins has joined former captains Richie Benaud and Mark Taylor, who have previously scripted a series win on Pakistan soil.
Chasing 351 to win the final Test in Lahore and the three-match series 1-0, Pakistan's defensive mindset and lack of intent once again came back to bite them.
Having gone into Stumps on the fourth evening at the score of 0-73, the final day promised to be a cliffhanger but that wasn't on to be as Australia continued to chip away at the wickets at regular intervals.
Seam-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green provided a near-perfect to the Australians on the fifty morning as he dismissed an in-form Abdullah Shafique for 27.
Having struggled to close out games in the fourth innings in the last 3 years, off-spinner Nathan Lyon was under immense pressure to deliver on the final day in Lahore.
And, that is exactly what the champion spinner did as he snuffed out a well-set Imam-ul-Haq (70) and an in-form Azhar Ali in quick succession to leave Pakistan reeling at 142/3.
Pat Cummins then came to the party big time as he knocked over Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan within a space of two overs, leaving Babar Azam with a herculean task to salvage a draw.
Azam continued with his good form as he compiled yet another half-century (55 off 104 deliveries) but any chances of him saving the game for the home side were snuffed out by Lyon, thanks to a brilliant catch by Steve Smith in the slip.
Once Babar was dismissed, it was just a matter of time for Australia as Lyon (5/83 in 37 overs) , en-route to a well-deserved five-wicket-haul, knocked over Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi before Cummins (3/23 in 15.1 overs) claimed the final wicket to seal a historic win by 115 runs.
This is Australia's first series win in Asia since their 1-0 victory in Sri Lanka in 2011. This is also their first win away from home since their 2-0 triumph in New Zealand in February 2017.
