They've served their time: Border wants Warner's captaincy ban lifted

Steve Smith and David Warner were handed yearly suspensions from cricket owing to their involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering saga in the Cape Town Test. Warner was given a life ban from leadership by Cricket Australia, while Smith was given a clean chit.

Meanwhile, Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

Border wants CA to ease up on Warner

The 1987 World Cup-winning captain, Allan Border, has come out in support of Warner. He said Warner’s ban should be revoked, considering he has served his time. He also mentioned that ball-tampering is something committed by all the captains, and no one can say they haven’t done it.

“It was a harsh penalty in the first place. Let's get on with it, they’ve served their time. I know that every other side’s doing exactly what we were caught doing. (If) all the captains put their hand on their heart and say ‘I wasn’t doing anything similar’, they’d be telling ‘porky pies’ (lies),

“The bans those boys copped were a bit over the top for the crime, given the knowledge around the cricket fraternity where this has been going on. They all had to change the way they went about their cricket,” he concluded.
