They shouldn't have promoted Hasan Ali at that time: Shahid Afridi

Pakistan registered a thumping victory against Sri Lanka in the first Test chasing 342 in the fourth innings, thanks to a splendid inning from Abdullah Shafique, who scored 160 not out.

Shahid Afridi questions Babar Azam over his decision

Although everyone praised Pakistan's skipper for his captaincy, there was one decision where former Pakistani stalwart Shahid Afridi questioned him.

After the fall of 5th wicket, Hasan Ali was sent in to bat for the visitors, where he could only manage five runs. Afridi felt that instead of Hasan, Mohammad Nawaz should have come in, considering he is a left-hander who can handle the left-hand spin of Prabath Jayasuriya well.

He said, "I felt they shouldn't have promoted Hasan Ali at that time. Because it was a left-arm spinner who was taking most of the wickets. I felt Nawaz should have come to the crease after Salman's wicket. I know it was the captain's decision, though, it isn't necessary that I am right and he is wrong.

"I only felt that a left-hander would have played (Nawaz) and a left-armer was bowling. So, for that, Nawaz would've been a better option," he concluded.
