Former England men’s team captain and commentator Nasser Hussain has advised the England women’s team to produce their A-game when they take on India in their next fixture.
England have tasted three defeats in as many games so far in this tournament and their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages aren’t looking bright at the moment.
After England lost to South Africa on 14th, March Nasser Hussain said on ICC’s digital daily that England need to pull up their socks to be in the fray.
Hussain went on to say, “England aren’t playing well at the moment, and they shouldn’t have any complaints”. But, he further added, “ there are so many good teams in the competition, but the game against India will be huge”.
The former skipper also went on to say, “India are playing some good cricket, their batters especially Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur played the previous day brilliantly. So, you can’t expect an easy game,'' Hussain said, looking at their performances.
The Women in Blue are placed at the third position in the points table. They have won two of their three matches so far. India’s latest win was against West Indies when they hammered West Indies by 155 runs. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were the star performers in that game, scoring 123 and 109 respectively.
England’s fielding has looked below par in this tournament. Against South Africa, the English fielders also dropped three catches and missed a stumping chance.
Hussain said, “fielding has looked poor” about England's fielding. “You can’t afford to drop Laura Wolvaardt’s catch. I have seen them train hard in the last two days, they are training with a lot of heart, but it is only to produce better results”.
The 53-year old also said, “In a particular game, if they drop a catch early on, the entire team looks jittery on the field”.
