Former England all-rounder Mark Alleyne joins Welsh Fire as their assistant coach. The decision was made ahead of the upcoming 2022 edition of men's 'The Hundred'.
Alleyne, who represented the English national side in 10 ODIs between 1999 and 2000, has previously coached Gloucestershire. The 54-year-old was also appointed as the head coach of the MCC in 2009.
Currently, the Tottenham-born cricketer is working as a Test scout for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He is also the Assistant Director of Sport at Marlborough College.
Mark Alleyne joins Gary Kirsten for Welsh Fire's men's team
With Alleyne's signing, he joins Matt Maynard and Jason Kerr as fellow assistants under Gary Kirsten's Welsh Fire regime.
"I'm delighted to be joining Welsh Fire and have the opportunity to work with Gary Kirsten and his coaching team. It's exciting to be able to work closely with elite players and hopefully, I can use my experience to add extra value to what they do and help create a winning formula for Welsh Fire," Alleyne told Espn.
"I loved watching The Hundred last year and it's exciting to get involved in a competition that captured the imagination of fans and brought new audiences to cricket," he said.
The 2022 edition of The Hundred will get underway on August 3. The tournament will conclude with the final on September 3 at Lord's.
The Jonny Bairstow-led Welsh Fire will begin the men's proceedings by playing the first match of the season. After that, they will go up against the Southern Brave at Rose Bowl in Southampton.
