The Barbados Royals Women unveiled the genesis of Women’s 6IXTY with an emphatic 28-run win over the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Chloe Tryon stole the show with a 29-ball 63 while skipper Hayley Mathews found herself amongst runs and wickets to headline their side’s opening triumph.

The contest, marking the first-ever match of the tournament, started off with a run-out in the first ball of the innings.

Opener Reniece Boyce found herself in a mix-up with her captain at the other end. Later, Barbados Royals’ South African import Tryon launched a rebellious counter-attack with a hostile 63 off just 29 deliveries. She smacked five boundaries and four sixes to lit up the event in its opening hour.

Her innings elevated the Royals to a 108-run total, one which turned out to be 28 more than what the Knight Riders could manage later in the evening.

Captain Matthews struck twice in her sole over of the Knight Riders’ response as Royals claimed two points to start off a triple-header at Warner Park.

Brief scores:

Barbados Royals Women: 108-4 (10)

Chloe Tryon 63 (29), Britney Cooper 18 (18)
Jannillea Glasgow 1-25, Anisa Mohammed 1-31

Trinbago Knight Riders Women: 80-3 (10)
