The South African women’s team’s opener Tazmin Brits has been reprimanded by the match officials for breaching level one of the ICC code of conduct during the third T20I against Ireland in Dublin on Wednesday.
To note, Brits stayed at the crease for quite a while despite being declared out in the second over and later expressed her dissatisfaction as she moved past the umpires. For such an inappropriate on-field behaviour.
The young Proteas opener was found guilty of breaching the article 2.8 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player support personnel, which characterizes any action of showing dissent at an umpire’s on-field decision during an international match as a level one offence.
The punishment for breaching this article includes a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of fifty percent of the accused player’s match fees, and one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the offence.
Therefore, after the completion of the match, the match officials reprimanded the 31-year-old keeper-batter for her on-field misconduct. The two on-field umpires Azam Baig, Ronald Black and the third umpire Aidan Seaver levelled the charge, while the match referee Graham McCrea added one demerit point to Brits’ disciplinary record.
Brits, for whom it was the first on-field misconduct in two years, admitted her mistake and accepted the sanction. Therefore, there was no further need for a formal inquiry.
