India’s star opener in the white-ball format, Shafali Verma has joined the Women’s Big Bash League and is all set to play for the Sydney Sixers in the upcoming seventh season of the tournament. Along with Verma, the Sixers have also picked India left-arm orthodox Radha Yadav as their main left-arm spinner for the season.
Verma and Yadav will join the likes of Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy Ash Gardner and Stella Campbell and will hope to transformer the two-time champion into the first team to win the title on three occasions.
Shafali Verma’s stocks in world cricket has risen rapidly after she debuted with the Indian women’s team back in 2019 as a 17-year old. Verma will be key in forming the top order along with Perry and Healy.
On the other hand, Radha Yadav might not be an assured starter like Verma but would bring in a different skillset for the Sixers. However, her recent form might be a worry for the Perry-led side. In the six WT20I matches she has played in 2021, she has picked just three wickets and has not been exceptionally economical in any of those games.
However, the 2018 WT20 WC star certainly has the potential and a lot of time to better her game.
The Women’s BBL competition starts on 14 October with Sydney Sixers taking on Melbourne Stars.
