A few days back, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had hinted of having a women's IPL. “Yes. We have it in our mind to get the women’s IPL properly done. How we do it, we will discuss in the next three or four months about the women’s IPL and take that forward,” Ganguly said while speaking in an interview with Boria Majumdar.
Despite the comments, there is a rising discontent in the cricketing circles that the Indian board is not serious about the women's game. Now Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates have batted for having a women’s IPL and how it would be beneficial for the game and the players to have such an event.
"I'd love to see a Women's IPL kick off soon, that's the next step for the global game,” said Sophie Devine at the Amazon Prime event.
"India is the next big step for the game after the success of WBBL and the event in England,” said Suzie Bates.
The Indian players were a part of the Women's Big Bash League recently and had a good run during the competition. In fact, Harmanpreet Kaur was named player of the tournament after she top-scored for her side Melbourne Renegades with 399 runs in 11 innings and also picked up 15 wickets at an economy rate of 7.46.
Apart from her, Jemimah Rodrigues also had a good run as she scored 317 runs.
