Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore at the IPL 2021 auction, has said that he is looking forward to playing under the leadership of Virat Kohli, and is excited to play alongside AB de Villiers and other teammates.
In a video message posted by the RCB’s social media handle, Maxwell has expressed his happiness after being picked up by his new team.
Maxwell was picked up by Punjab Kings last season for Rs 10.75 crore, but the swashbuckling batsman only managed to score 108 runs at an average of 15.42 and a strike rate of just 101.88, and as a result, the right handed batsman was released by his franchise.
Glenn Maxwell was picked up by RCB after an intense bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings, as the two teams went toe to toe for Maxi.
“Often Maxwell has been used in a finisher role, he is a multi-skilled player and he can bowl off-spin as well. It depends on what the team wants, we all look at how to bring the best out of him. We were after the X factor player and we got that in-form of Maxwell,” Mike Hesson, RCB’s director of cricket, said during a media interaction in Chennai.
RCB bought Kyle Jamieson for Rs 15 crore, Daniel Christian for Rs 4.80 crore, Sachin Baby for Rs 20 lakh, KS Bharat for Rs 20 lakh, Rajat Patidar for Rs 20 lakh, Mohammed Azharuddeen for Rs 20 lakh, Suyash Prabhudesai for Rs 20 lakh, apart from Glenn Maxwell.
