‘Still can't believe Andrew is no more’: Harbhajan Singh on Symonds’ demise

Harbhajan Singh's remembrance of Andrew Symonds is a perfect testimony of how time heals everything. After the demise of the ex-Australian international, Bhajji, like many others worldwide, paid his homage to Symonds. 

"Wherever you are, mate, we want you to rest in peace, and you would be missed," the former Indian off-spinner said. 

The friendship between Harbhajan and Symonds has a long history. India and Australia faced off in the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Series at the time. Symonds claimed Harbhajan had used a racist epithet against him in Sydney. As a result, Harbhajan was initially banned for three matches, but this was later reduced to a 50% punishment after a highly publicized battle.

Interestingly, a few years later, the duo shared the same dressing room during their stint with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 'Turbanator' admitted that he got close to 'Roy' once he knew him.

"Obviously, we've had a lot of history. Thanks to IPL and Mumbai Indians for putting both of us together in one dressing room. And once I got to know such a lovely human being, and we became very good friends. We used to sit together, have a drink, and laugh. He used to share a lot of stories. He was someone who I could call at 2:30 in the morning and say, 'Hey mate, what are you doing, what are you up to, let's meet', and he would be up for it," Bhajji disclosed. 

The cricketer-turned-commentator showcased an utter shock after hearing about Symmo's death. When Harbhajan heard about the shocking news on Sunday, he couldn't believe it.

In an interview with Star Sports, Harbhajan revealed, "I was so shocked when I woke up this morning and saw my phone and I was shattered with this news that Andrew is no more. I still can't believe Andrew is no more because he's such a strong guy and whatever has happened is a very sad thing. My condolences to his family and friends and it's a loss for all of us."

Symonds' death at the age of 46 came as a shock to the cricketing world. After the unexpected death of Shane Warne in March of this year, Australia lost another legend in Symonds.
