Punjab became the first team to win a competitive game in a re-built Motera stadium after beating Karnataka in the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. Siddarth Kaul was the star of the game for the Punjab team as he picked up three crucial wickets to break the back of the Karnataka batting line up.

Chasing a paltry total of 88, the Punjab batsmen chased the target down rapidly despite an early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma. Skipper Mandeep Singh (49*) alongside in-form Prabhsimran Singh (35*) took the game away from Karnataka with an unbeaten 85-run partnership for the second wicket. Abhimanyu Mithun picked the lone wicket for Karnataka.
Earlier in the day, Punjab after winning the toss decided to send in Karnataka to bat. The decision was proven right by the Punjab pacers as between the three of them (Kaul, Sandeep Sharma, and Arshdeep Singh), they picked up seven wickets to dismantle Karnataka. Medium-pacer Ramandeep Singh was awarded with two wickets as well.
No Karanataka batter was able to apply themselves on the crease barring Aniruddh Joshi who top-scored with 27 off 34 balls. Punjab had also beaten Karnataka in the group stages of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. They will now face the winner of the Quarter Final game between Baroda and Haryana which will take place tomorrow.
