SL vs AUS | Pat Cummins’ massive six lands on street outside Galle Stadium

Australia, fuelled by crafty half-centuries from opener Usman Khawaja and all-rounder Cameron Green, continue to mount a massive first-innings lead over hosts Sri Lanka. Captain Pat Cummins also came to the fore with some clean striking during the twilight stages of the day. Overall, the visitors reached 313-8 at stumps on Day 2.

Notably, one of the day's highlights came through captain Cummins off the final ball before the close of play. To end the 69th over of the innings, the lower-order batter struck a colossal hit which saw the ball landing outside the Galle International Stadium.

Sri Lankan spinner Jeffrey Vandersay came in to bowl the 69th over of the innings. The Australian captain, on strike at that stage, took Vandersay to cleaners with two clean maximums and a boundary. Moreover, the six off the final ball of the over landed on the road outside the stadium.

The play was immediately called off for bad light, and Australia finished the day with a 101-run lead. The tourists will resume action on Day 3 at 313-8, with Cummins batting on 26 and his partner Nathan Lyon at 8*.

Earlier, the two batsmen had formed forces with Australia on the verge of getting all out at 278-8. However, their handy and unbeaten 35-run stand helped them cross the 300-run mark and extended their first-innings advantage over Dimuth Karunaratne’s Sri Lanka.
