‘Sir, please get me through this World Cup,’ Shankur Basu reflects on Hardik’s injury during 2019 WC

Hardik Pandya is enjoying a dream run in the blue jersey. The all-rounder stunned the cricket fans with his exceptional performance in the United Kingdom. However, the past few years were not easy for the 28-year-old.

Pandya’s career came to a standstill following the conclusion of the World Cup 2019 as he was plagued with a back injury. He went under the knife for the same and had to take breaks from the game time and again.

The surgery also impacted Pandya’s bowling ability as the past few years limited him to a power-hitter. However, proper rest and training have now made him fit to give his 100 per cent to the Indian team.

Hardik faced hardships during 2019 World Cup

Team India's strength and conditioning, Shankar Basu, recently revealed the hardships faced by Pandya during the 2019 World Cup. Now many are aware of the fact that the all-rounder wasn’t completely fit for the tournament.

Despite being sore from IPL, Pandya gave his best as he retuned with 226 runs and ten wickets.

"Hardik is a great guy. I remember the 2019 World Cup, it was post-IPL and he was sore, having played a lot of matches. He said to me 'Sir, please get me through this World Cup. I need to be fit. And I got him through,” Basu said while talking on BeerBiceps’ YouTube Channel.

Shankar Basu reveals the reason behind the all-rounder’s back injury

Reflecting on the reason behind Pandya’s injury, Basu mentioned that Pandya was included into the international side without much dometic experience.

After toiling hard for months, the maestro all-rounder returned to action with the IPL, playing an instrumental role in leading Gujarat Titans to their maiden victory.

"He had not played much of junior cricket. Suddenly, he has been catapulted to the international level, and the loads are much higher. He has to do it day in and day out. He is getting used to it now,” the renown coach added.

Of course, fast bowlers and all-rounders are going to get injured every now and then," Basu concluded.
