Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill etched his name in the IPL record books by becoming only the third captain to score over 500 runs in a season before the age of 26. Gill’s steady knock of 43 runs in 46 balls during a tense rain-affected match against MI on Tuesday helped GT secure a dramatic last-ball victory.

Shubman Gill Stellar Form In IPL 2025

Shubman Gill’s 2025 IPL campaign has been a standout, the star batter has made 508 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 50.80 and a strike rate of over 152. His tally includes five half-centuries making him the third-highest run-getter of the ongoing season.

GT vs MI: Rain-Hit Thriller

GT won the toss and chose to bowl first, with the pitch offering some assistance to the seamers. MI's innings was anchored by a solid 71-run partnership between Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav. However, regular breakthroughs by the GT bowlers prevented MI from gaining late momentum, restricting them to a modest 155/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 156, GT faced an early setback with the dismissal of Sai Sudharsan. However, a composed 72-run stand between Gill and Jos Buttler stabilised the innings.

Rain interruptions, however, played a crucial role in altering the dynamics of the game. When play resumed for the final over, GT faced a revised target of 147. With 15 needed off 6 balls, lower-order batters Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee showed nerves of steel to seal the game off the very last delivery.

With this victory GT is placed at the top of the points table, with eight wins from eleven matches. Meanwhile, MI’ six-match winning streak came to an end, though they remain in playoff contention at fourth position with 14 points from 12 matches.
