KL Rahul is under rehabilitation at the NCA
Indian batter, Shreyas Iyer, who recently underwent surgery to address a troublesome back injury, is encountering challenges in his recovery process. As the highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup draws near, there are growing concerns about his availability for the marquee event that is scheduled to kick-off on October 5.
KL Rahul Set for Comeback, Shreyas Iyer's Road to Recovery Uncertain
However, amidst this apprehension, there seems to be a ray of hope surrounding the recovery of KL Rahul, the dynamic wicket-keeper batsman. The cricketing fraternity eagerly anticipates his return to action at the forthcoming 2023 Asia Cup, scheduled for August-September. Rahul's presence is of paramount importance to Team India's World Cup aspirations, particularly with Rishabh Pant's absence from the squad.
Providing insight into the players' rehabilitation, an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared that KL Rahul's rehabilitation is progressing positively, and he is expected to regain full fitness within approximately a month.
However, he revealed that Iyer's recovery is proceeding at a slower pace, raising uncertainties about his availability for the tournament. Despite the current lack of certainty surrounding Iyer's recovery, there remains optimism within the BCCI that he will be able to recuperate in time for the World Cup.
“Rahul’s recovery is going well. He should be fit in a month or so. Return from surgery is always tricky and he is a very important player for World Cup. Iyer’s progress is slow but we are still hopeful that he will recover by World Cup. But at this moment, it’s not a certainty with Iyer,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
The BCCI official further stated that they would prefer Rahul to participate in some matches prior to the ICC World Cup 2023 in order to regain his form and rhythm. However, he also mentioned that if Rahul attains complete fitness, his readiness can be evaluated during the matches in Ireland.
According to the official, the final decision hinges on Rahul’s recovery progress. The official also went on to state the importance of allowing Iyer sufficient time to heal and regain full fitness before making any determinations.
