India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ODI series against England. He had suffered subluxation on his left shoulder after he dived forcefully in the 8th over while fielding, the BCCI said in an update on Twitter.
Iyer’s injury also means that he would be missing the first half of the IPL 2021. The right-handed batsman is the captain of Delhi Capitals.
This is the second instance where Iyer has picked up the shoulder injury. He had sustained one during the Australian tour.
The home side took 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series after beating England by 66 runs in Pune on Tuesday.
India rode on some brilliant batting by the top and middle order batsmen. Opener Shikhar Dhawan fell two short of a ton while Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and debutant Krunal Pandya notched up individually fifties.
Krunal who reached the 50-run mark in 26 balls scored the fastest fifty by a batsman on debut.
Later, England began the proceedings in an aggressive manner after openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow put 135 on the board before the end of 15th over.
But the departure of Roy and Bairstow saw the visitors losing wickets at regular intervals to get reduced to 217/6 and eventually get bowled out for 251.
Prasidh Krishna who also made his ODI debut for India in this match picked up four wickets while Shardul Thakur scalped a couple of wickets during the course.
The two teams will now lock horns in the second ODI on Friday at the same venue.
