India's search for ODI No.4 continues in the absence of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer after several potential candidates failed to grab a chance to cement this place in the side during the recently concluded three-match series in West Indies.

Out of favour opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is finding himself out of contention for the upcoming World Cup 2023, has stated that Suryakumar Yadav is the right player to fit in the No.4 slot.

Speaking to PTI, the Punjab Kings skipper explained that Yadav's experience and performances in international matches would be crucial. Yadav in the three-ODIs against West Indies struggled to make an impact, scoring just 78 runs.

Here's what Dhawan said

"I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while,"

Dhawan further stated that India's ODI side has a good blend of youth and experience, and could well in home conditions.

"We have got a very good side which has the right blend of experience and youth. We will have the home advantage. We know the grounds and pitches and that is going to come in very handy."

In 26 ODIs, the Mumbai Indians batter has scored 511 runs with two fifties. Other contenders for the No.4 spot are Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Ishan Kishan.
