Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is likely set to make a strong return ahead of the IPL 2025 resumption, putting to rest speculation around his injury with an intense net session. The franchise, which has been eliminated from the playoff race, is now focusing on ending their campaign on a high note in their final two group-stage matches.

The Royals shared a video clip on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, showing Samson training rigorously at the nets.

The wicketkeeper-batter had been out of action since suffering a rib injury during Rajasthan’s match against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium earlier in the season.

Will Sanju Samson Play As IPL 2025 Restarts?

Samson missed several games before the tournament was suspended for a week due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The enforced break, however, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Rajasthan skipper. It allowed him 8–10 days of recovery time, and he appears to have used it well to return to match fitness.

With the Royals’ next fixture scheduled for May 18 against Punjab Kings, followed by their final match against CSK, Samson is expected to take back the captaincy reins and return to the playing XI.

Although RR’s campaign will end at the league stage, Samson’s return offers a boost and an opportunity for the team to finish the season on a positive note.

Sanju Samson’s IPL 2025 Season So Far

Before his injury, Sanju Samson had a decent run in the first half of IPL 2025. In seven matches, he scored 224 runs at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.58. While his form was slightly inconsistent, his absence was clearly felt by the Rajasthan side, which struggled for stability and leadership in the latter half of the first phase.

Though RR are no longer in the race for the playoffs, the return of their captain might give them a chance to salvage pride and evaluate squad options for the future.

If Sanju Samson Returns, What’s The Plan For Royals?

Samson’s comeback also poses an interesting question- where will he bat? In his absence, Vaibhav Suryavanshi impressed at the top order, and team management may consider slotting Samson back at No. 3, a position he has previously thrived in.
