A young sensation from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane has been roped in by the Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League 2020-21. He has been terrific addition for whichever teams he has played for and Hurricanes have signed him in a hope to bolster their spin department. As per reports, Lamichhane will be joining the squad in January and will be available for the remainder of the season. The youngster was delighted to be part of the squad and felt honoured. Meanwhile, Hurricanes had also signed West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul yesterday.
"I am humbled and honoured to join the Hobart Hurricanes family for BBL|10. I have always got a lot of love and support in Australia, and the premium quality of competition in Big Bash is exciting. I can't wait to play at the Blundstone Arena," Lamichhane was quoted as saying in a statement released by the Hobart Hurricanes.
This will be the 3rd year for Lamichhane in the BBL. He had earlier plied his trade for the Melbourne Stars in the previous two seasons and has so far bagged 26 wickets in 21 matches. He has been pretty impressive in most of the matches he has played and will look to make a mark for Hurricanes in the upcoming season. Given his repertoire as a leggie, Hurricanes’ head coach Adam Griffith believes that Lamichhane can turn out to be the X-Factor for the Hurricanes.
"We have seen how Sandeep can change a game with his mystery spin, and he can bowl at any stage of the innings. He's a proven wicket-taker who will add yet another dimension to our bowling group," Griffith stated.
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Lamichhane is the pioneer of cricket in Nepal and has been part of most of the T20 Leagues across the world. Lamichhane had stormed into the BBL with twin wickets in his very first over of Shane Watson and Callum Ferguson. Meanwhile, Lamichhane is part of the Delhi Capitals squad in the IPL. However, due to a big pool of foreign players, the Nepali had to warm the benches for the whole tournament.
