Later, Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back in the hut for a golden duck while skipper Virat Kohli who was looking pretty good chased a delivery way outside off stump only to edge it and give a catch to Mulder for 35.
Rahul on the other side, went on to notch up a hundred and was unbeaten at 122 at the end of the day’s play. With him was Ajinkya Rahane who remained not out at 40. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi picked all the three wickets that went down on the first day.
India are without the services of newly-appointed Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma after he was ruled out of the fixtures due to a hamstring injury. India and South Africa are locking horns in a three-match Test series which will be followed by three ODIs.
