Ruturaj Gaikwad has now joined a gallery of great Indian cricketers through his batting masterclass against Australia in Guwahati. Pumping out 123 scintillating runs to lead his team’s recovery in the third T20I of their five-match series, the 26-year-old became only the ninth Indian cricketer to score a century in the game’s truncated format.

Gaikwad now finds himself in an elite list, previously featuring the likes of legendary Indian batters Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina among others.

Ruturaj Gaikwad became only the ninth Indian cricketer to notch up a T20I ton through his batting spectacle against Australia in Guwahati. The dashing opening batsman bludgeoned 13 boundaries and seven sixes in his 57-ball epic, and turbo-charged the Indian total towards a colossal 222-3 by the end of their 20 overs.

The innings marked Ruturaj Gaikwad’s maiden T20I century, and his fourth fifty-plus score for India in the format. Remarkably, the cricketer also produced a match-winning 58 against the same opponents in the previous game.

The youngster also racked up runs in heap during India’s Asian Games 2022 campaign in Hangzhou last month. Leading an inexperienced Indian team at the multi-nation, the ‘Men in Blue’ clinched gold and found themselves at the top of the winner’s podium in the final.
