The destructive English opener Jason Roy has been banned from playing England’s next two games and fined £2500 by the England Cricket Board (ECB) as he admitted committing some misconduct, which hasn't been revealed yet. Further, he has been suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour and asked to pay the fine by 31st March.
As per the Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC), that announced the sanctions, the English opener admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be detrimental to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB as well as himself into disrepute. The issued statement doesn’t have any mention of what exactly Roy did to deserve this and therefore, a lot of confusion has been created among the cricket fans in this regard.
The Cricket Disciplinary Commission changed its regulations in 2020 and stressed that the reasons for the panel’s findings should be published in full length on the ECB’s website unless the panel itself finds some appropriate causes for not disclosing the same in a detailed manner. Therefore, as per the amended regulations of the CDC, in the latter case, the findings should be published discretely or not published at all. So, it is understood that CDC probably considers it inappropriate to disclose the details of Roy’s misconduct.
The dashing English opener Jason Roy was recently in headlines after making himself unavailable for the IPL 2022 owing to bio-bubble fatigue. Added to that, his club Surrey declared that the veteran opener would also miss the initial games of the Championship season as he has taken an indefinite break from cricket in order to spend some quality time with his family.
