India captain Rohit Sharma has climbed the ICC ODI rankings, outpacing fellow teammate and star batsman Virat Kohli.

Rohit climbs ICC ODI rankings, overtakes Kohli

Rohit's outstanding performances in World Cup 2023, including a stunning 131 runs against Afghanistan and a brisk 86 off 63 balls against arch-rivals, Pakistan, have propelled him to the sixth spot in the rankings, a huge leap of five places. This marks the first time Rohit has edged past Kohli in the ICC ODI rankings for batters.

On the other hand, Kohli, who currently sits in the ninth position, has been no less magnificent. In the first match of the tournament, the seasoned No. 3 batsman exhibited his class by scoring 85 crucial runs against Australia under intense pressure, which helped India clinch the game after they were reduced to a dismal 2-3.

The right-hander continued his stellar form with a match-winning half-century against Afghanistan. However, he couldn’t replicate his form against Pakistan and was dismissed for just 16 runs.

Meanwhile, India, buoyed by the sublime form of its top order, remains unbeaten in the tournament. The side recently notched up a comprehensive victory over Pakistan, bolstering their morale.

As the World Cup progresses, all eyes will be on Rohit as he readies himself to lead India against a struggling Bangladeshi side reeling from consecutive defeats against England and New Zealand.

With both Rohit and Kohli in sublime touch, the Indian team seems set for more success in the competition. Fans and cricketing experts alike will eagerly await more exploits from the dynamic duo.
