Australian left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been cleared of having a suspect bowling action after an investigation from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Earlier this month, the 28-year-old was reported over his bowling action shortly after starring in Australia’s emphatic 2-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka at the latter’s home ground.

Matthew Kuhnemann subsequently received the backing of his teammates, with interim national skipper Steve Smith expressing his confidence over the spinner’s ability of clearing all bowling tests.

Matthew Kuhnemann cleared of suspect action

Matthew Kuhnemann toured Sri Lanka earlier this month for a two-match Test series at the Galle International Stadium, shortly after playing for Brisbane Heat in the BBL 2024-25 season. The left-arm Australian spinner picked up 16 wickets across four innings of both Tests as the visitors sealed the series 2-0.

However, Kuhnemann was subsequently reported for having a suspect bowling action, which put a temporary ban on him from bowling in international cricket. The match officials pushed for an investigation, which saw him independently tested by the ICC.

As per the CODE Sports, the 28-year-old has now been cleared of suspect action, and he can now resume bowling in competitive cricket.
