Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has officially named Rajat Patidar as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The announcement was made on February 13, confirming the star batter’s leadership role in the franchise.

Patidar, who has been with RCB for the past four years, was among the retained players ahead of the new season. His appointment comes as no surprise, as he was already considered the frontrunner for the captaincy.

Rajat Patidar's Performance In IPL

Rajat Patidar takes over from Faf du Plessis, who led the team from 2022 to 2024 before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

It is important to mention that Patidar has been a part of RCB since 2021 and has consistently performed well for the team. The right-handed batter has played 27 IPL matches, scoring 799 runs at an average of 34.74. In IPL 2024, he had a brilliant season, scoring 395 runs in 13 matches at an impressive strike rate of 177.13. He smashed five half-centuries, with a top score of 55, and showcased his power-hitting ability with 33 sixes and 21 fours.

Notably, he also led the Madhya Pradesh side in the domestic cricket, which was surely one of the reason that RCB trusted the star batter.

With his explosive batting and experience with the franchise, Patidar will now have the responsibility of leading RCB in their hunt for their first IPL title.
