Rajasthan Royals face match-fixing allegations [Source: AP]
Rajasthan Royals (RR) are having a hard time in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. They’ve messed up two back-to-back run chases, with the latest one happening at their home ground in Jaipur against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
To make things worse, their captain Sanju Samson missed the match due to injury, and he’s likely to sit out the next game as well.
BJP MLA Claims RR Fixed Game Against LSG
In that match on April 19, RR lost by just two runs, failing to chase a small target. This surprising loss has raised some serious eyebrows, and now RR is facing match-fixing allegations. Jaideep Bihani, the convenor of the ad hoc committee of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), has openly accused the team of fixing the game. He’s also a BJP MLA from Sri Ganganagar.
Bihani claimed that anyone watching the match could tell something was fishy. According to him, it’s hard to believe RR couldn’t score just nine runs in the final over against Avesh Khan.
"The ad hoc committee has been appointed by the state government in Rajasthan. It has extended for a fifth time. We make sure all competitions take place without any issues. But then just as IPL came, the Zila Parishad (district council) took control of it. For IPL, the BCCI had first sent a letter to RCA only, not Zila Parishad. The excuse given by them and RR that we don’t have an MOU from Sawai Mansingh Stadium. If MOU is not there, so what? Aren’t you paying Zila Parishad for every match?” he told News18 Rajasthan.
Rajasthan Royals Fail To Chase Down The Target Against LSG
Talking about the match itself, RR were in a strong position, needing only 25 runs from 18 balls with 8 wickets in hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag were batting well. But suddenly, things went downhill. Both got out, and in the last over, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Shubham Dubey couldn’t even manage nine runs.
Right now, RR are sitting at the 8th spot on the points table with just two wins out of eight games. Their next match is against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 24 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
