Team India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, has confirmed that Hardik Pandya will miss the upcoming clash against New Zealand, which is set to be played on Sunday, October 22 in Dharamsala.

The Indian all-rounder sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

According to a report from The Indian Express, Hardik Pandya will now be transferred to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for treatment by English specialist doctors.

Here’s what Rahul Dravid said during the pre-match press conference:

“Yeah, he [Hardik Pandya] is an important player for us and he is an important allrounder, he is going to miss this game. Sometimes you do accept this kind of thing goes on.”

Hardik Pandya looked in extreme pain as he twisted his left ankle trying to block a straight drive from Litton Das during India's match against Bangladesh on Thursday. He fell on the ground and clutched his ankle in pain.

The BCCI physio rushed to the scene to provide quick care to the ‘suffering’ all-rounder. Despite employing magic spray and applying extensive taping, Hardik's pain returned when he resumed his run-up. Following a brief chat with Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, he left the field and didn't return.

As per various reports, it's expected that Suryakumar Yadav will take over for Hardik Pandya in the upcoming match against New Zealand, and Mohammed Shami is likely to replace Shardul Thakur, who has struggled with his bowling in the tournament.

The Men in Blue have left no box unchecked and have been in stellar form in the tournament. They have won all four matches convincingly, currently holding the second position on the points table. Their sights are set on dethroning New Zealand from the top spot.
