PCB to show mercy on Fakhar Zaman after apologetic reply to show cause notice (@fakhar3939/X.com)
In an interesting turn of events, Fakhar Zaman is likely to be included in PCB's central contract list after being initially snubbed due to a controversial tweet questioning Babar Azam's exclusion by the selection committee. However, after Zaman was apologetic in his response to the show cause notice, PCB is expected to soften its stand.
Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah were dropped midway through the Test series against England due to poor form and fitness concerns. However, fans lashed out at the Aaqib Javed-led selection committee for disrespecting Babar, and amongst the supporters was Pakistan's left-hander, Fakhar Zaman.
Fakhar Zaman likely to be forgiven by PCB
In his controversial tweet, he raised objections to the selection committee's decision-making, and as a centrally contracted player, his actions violated PCB's player code of conduct. Hence, the board took strict action and issued him a show cause notice before eventually dropping Fakhar Zaman from the 2024-25 central contract as well as the upcoming white ball tours against Australia and Zimbabwe.
However, News18 reports that Fakhar Zaman is remorseful and apologised in his reply to the show cause notice. Moreover, after discussions with chairman Mohsin Naqvi and captain Mohammad Rizwan, PCB is mulling letting Zaman off the hook with a warning as it's his first violation.
That being said, to make a comeback, Fakhar Zaman is reportedly advised to fix his knee issue and prove his fitness. If all things go well, he will likely be included in the white ball series against South Africa in December before getting awarded a central contract.
Fakhar Zaman is an integral part of Pakistan's white ball setup and with the Champions Trophy just around the corner, Rizwan wants him back in the squad as soon as possible.
Fakhar Zaman cut ties with Babar Azam's agency
After the controversial tweet in Babar Azam's favour cost him a central contract, Fakhar Zaman reportedly parted ways with his agency 'Saya Corps,' which also manages Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. It is rumoured that Zaman's social media account was used without his knowledge by his agency to create a buzz around Babar's snub from the Test team.
