PCB puts national camp, squad selection on hold for Afghanistan series

The Pakistan Cricket Board had put a hold on the training camp and announcement of the squad for the Afghanistan series. The PCB is seeking confirmation from the Afghanistan Cricket Board for the fixtures that are slated to take place in Sri Lanka.

“Once they give us the complete series travel plans and itinerary we will have the camp and also release our squad,” the PCB has said.

Afghanistan is facing its worst crisis in the last two decades after the Taliban took over the reigns but the ACB is in talks with the authorities and US troops who are controlling the flights in and out of Kabul.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO, Hamid Shinwari, has said that the team will play the three-match ODI series.

"Cricket is doing very well. We are going to the office of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The cricket team is preparing for the Pakistan series in Sri Lanka. It is confirmed. We are committed to sending a team to Sri Lanka as soon as possible," said Shinwari to ESPNcricinfo.

If the series goes ahead as planned, Pakistan would be resting some of its key players which include the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and pacers, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Parvez Rasool seeks BCCI's intervention to resolve tiff with JKCA over roller theft allegations

The tiff between Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and all-rounder Parvez Rasool has escalated and the 32-year-old cricket who is the lone player from the state to represent the country at the highest level now wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to intervene in the matter according to a report in The Indian Express. “I think BCCI should intervene now. Please see my work. I’m trying to promote cricket on my part. I had spent from my own pocket to build that ground and meet daily expenses. I don’t take any money, I help players,” Rasool said. Rasool also revealed that one of the officials had made a social media post where he wrote that the cricketer needed to be given a longer rope so that he could hang himself. However, the post was later deleted. “The official deleted it but I have the screenshot of it. Can anyone tell me what wrong I have done that I need to be hanged? If you have any doubts, they have my phone number, they can call me. It took mere seconds to clarify but it seems they wanted to victimize me,” he said. The controversy began after JKCA had issued a notice to Parvez asking him to return a cricket roller that had gone missing or face “police action”. The all-rounder, in his reply to the board denied possessing any roller and further asked the administrators, “Is this the way to treat an international cricketer who has given life and soul to J&K cricket?”.

WI vs PAK | 2nd Test | Day 1: Babar Azam, Fawad Alam help Pakistan recover after dismal start

Pakistan were back on track in the second Test of the two-match series against West Indies in Jamaica on the first day of the encounter, courtesy a brilliant stand between captain Babar Azam and Fawad Alam. After being put into bat, the visitors had a disappointing start to the first innings as they lost Abid Ali, Imran Butt and Azhar Ali early in the proceedings. Both the openers only managed to score one run each while Azhar was dismissed for a 6-ball duck and the visiting side was reduced to 2/3 in the fourth over. But it was Babar and Fawad who came in for the rescue and steadied the ship for Pakistan. The two batsmen stitched a partnership of 166 runs for the fourth wicket but Pakistan suffered a blow when Fawad was retired hurt in the 54th over for a personal score of unbeaten 76. He had fallen to humidity and walked off the field. The skipper Babar eventually departed for 75 after being caught by Jason Holder off Kemar Roach. Later, wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan who had replaced Fawad in the middle and Faheem Ashraf made sure that there were no more fall of wickets till the end of the day. Pakistan were 212/4 at the end of first day’s play with Rizwan (22*) and Ashraf (23*) still at the crease. . For West Indies, it was Kemar Roach who was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with a three-for while Jayden Seales scalped a wicket during the course. The hosts lead the series 1-0 at the moment after they etched a win by just one wicket in a nail-biting first clash in Jamaica.

High time we had an IPL: After Mandhana, Jemimah Rodriguez echoes the women’s league demand

India top-order batter and a chirpy customer on and off the field, Jemimah Rodriguez has demanded a Women’s IPL to be held in India. The Mumbai born, currently playing in The Hundred Women’s competition feels that a global T20 tournament could a go long way in changing the outlook of the women’s game in India. “When we see the WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League) happening, then the KSL (Kia Super League which is now replaced by Women’s Hundred) and now the Hundred, we are all like, when will we have our own IPL? It is going to make women’s cricket better. Imagine, the domestic girls here in England, the kind of experience they are having, sharing dressing rooms with international players. There is so much to learn,” Rodrigues was quoted as saying to BBC. The 20-year-old, who did not play even a single game on India Women’s tour of England in June-July, has now become the highest run-scorer in The Hundred, scoring 249 runs in just seven innings at an average of 41.50 and a strike rate of more than 150. Thus Jemimah understood what it is like to have a tournament where you regularly play at the highest level and feels that such a tournament will only improve the condition and stature of Indian domestic cricket as far as the Women’s game is concerned. “Once they realise that OK, this is the standard, this is what I need to go out and do, they will want to work harder and work better. That’s very important in India because there is a lot of gap between the domestic and international sides in India,” said the Northern Superchargers player, who still co-holds the record for the highest individual score by any player (men or women) in The Hundred. She scored unbeaten 92 against Welsh Fire Women. “In every street in India, you see boys and girls playing cricket – there isn’t any shortage of future players! I think it’s high time we had an IPL,” Jemimah added. Earlier another Indian player, Smriti Mandhana, who was part of The Hundred as well, said that a six-team Women’s IPL should be started by BCCI.
