According to reports from Pakistani media, the national cricket team players, including stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, have not received their salaries for four months, from July to October 2024. This issue also extends to the Pakistan women's cricket team, which has faced a similar delay in payments.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) often finds itself in a bad light due to constant changes in the leadership panel and questionable decisions. At a time when the quality of their cricket has dropped to an all-time low, PCB is struggling massively to keep things from falling apart.

PCB yet to pay its contracted players, including Babar Azam

However, monetary constraints are something PCB cannot escape and the central contract players are reportedly bearing the brunt of it.

As per Pakistan local media, Babar Azam, who recently quit captaincy, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, along with many other contracted players are yet to be paid four months of salary by PCB.

The situation arises amid recent contract reviews and administrative challenges in the PCB. As many as 25 senior men's cricketers were awarded three-year contracts from July 2023 to June 2026.

"Last year, prior to the World Cup, players pressured the board to secure a favorable contract, but the current situation has changed dramatically. They have not received their monthly salaries for four months, from July to October, and have been left waiting despite numerous reminders," the report explained.

However, the team's poor performance has reportedly prompted a review of these contracts. Additionally, sponsorship payments for the logos on the men's team shirts have also been delayed.

On the other hand, the women's team, on 23-month contracts starting in August 2023, is similarly affected by delayed payments. Although their contracts were set for review after 12 months, the process has not yet been completed.

PCB remains undecided on Babar Azam's replacement

Babar Azam tendered his resignation as Pakistan's white-ball format captain for the second time in the last 10 months, and PCB is racing against time to solve the replacement dilemma.

While wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan was viewed as the front runner, PCB reportedly is yet to approach Rizwan with an offer. Moreover, even Rizwan is sceptical about the new role citing ill-treatment to previous captains.
