Pakistan cricket's one of the pioneering legend, Hanif Mohammad's brother Wazir Mohammad, passed away at the age of 95 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Wazir was also the third-oldest living Test cricketer after Neil Harvey and Trevor McMahon.

Wazir Mohammad's cricketing glory

Wazir made his debut in International cricket against India, where he played his first Test match back in 1952. The lesser-known Mohammad sibling failed to impress, accumulating just 12 runs across his two innings and getting dismissed both times in front of Vinoo Mankad with an lbw and a caught and bowled.

While Wazir failed to make a mark during his debut, he played 20 Test matches throughout his career, making 801 runs at a decent average of 27.62. His First Class exploits were more noteworthy as he bagged 4930 runs from 105 matches at an average of 40.40 while having 11 tons and 26 half-centuries to his name.

Mohsin Naqvi and PCB pay tribute to the legend

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep sorrow over his passing and paid tribute to the loss of the legend on Monday, October 13.

“Wazir Mohammad’s services to cricket will always be remembered,” said Mohsin Naqvi in his message.

The PCB and Pakistan’s cricket community offered heartfelt condolences to Wazir’s family, honouring his legacy as one of the renowned Mohammad brothers who helped shape the foundation of Pakistan cricket.

"The PCB is deeply saddened by the passing of former Pakistan Test batter Wazir Mohammad. One of the four Mohammad brothers to represent Pakistan in Test cricket, he featured in 20 matches for his country from 1952 to 1959. The PCB extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," wrote PCB in a statement.

While the legend left the world on October 13, 2025, his younger brother and Pakistan legend, Hanif Mohammad, died at the age of 81 on August 11, 2016.
