Pakistan blind cricket team scripted history by winning the country's maiden Blind Cricket T20 World Cup 2024. In the finals held in Multan on December 3, Pakistan crushed Bangladesh to register a dominant 10-wicket victory, thus ending India's dominance and lifting the title.
After Bangladesh decided to bat first, they struggled against Pakistan's disciplined bowling attack and scored 139 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The top scorer for Bangladesh was Arif Hussain, who struggled hard to contribute 54 off 52 balls.
However, the Pakistani bowlers ensured that no other batsman could settle down completely, and Babar Ali led them by taking 2 key wickets. Mohammad Salman and Matiullah supported him effectively, picking up a wicket each to restrict the visitors to a modest total of 139 runs.

That being said, chasing 140, Pakistan's openers, Nisar Ali and Mohammad Safdar, made the target look extremely small and comfortable, showing their class and composure. Openers Nisar Ali scored a captain's knock while remaining unbeaten on 72 off just 31 balls, while Safdar provided excellent support through an unbeaten 47. The unbroken partnership of 141 between these two guided Pakistan to victory within 11 overs.
Significantly, the victory is of huge significance since it ends India's stranglehold on the Blind T20 World Cup. They had won all three of the previous editions, starting from the inaugural tournament in 2012, when they outplayed Pakistan by 29 runs in the final. The second and third editions, held in 2017 and 2022, also ended with Indian triumphs, with Pakistan finishing as runners-up on multiple occasions.
However, the 2024 edition saw a shift in power. India pulled out of the event as Pakistan were host country and the Blind team were declined clearance for travel on safety grounds.
Pakistan-India at standoff again for Champions Trophy
The Champions Trophy 2025 hosting rights remain with Pakistan and India are not willing to set foot in Pakistan over security reasons. In a recent ICC meeting, BCCI urged PCB to opt for a hybrid model and allow a neutral venue for team India. However, PCB has partially agreed to the request as they want certain demands to be met, including a bigger share of revenue.
