Nottinghamshire left to rue erroneous decisions as rain deprives them of an expected victory

Did Steven Mullaney commit an irreparable blunder by not enforcing the follow on? It is one question that will haunt Nottinghamshire as inclement weather conditions deprived them of a win. Dominating Middlesex throughout the watch, they had their eyes set on an imminent victory. However, rain played spoilsport as only about 22 overs were bowled on the final day.

In whatever play was possible, the two overnight batters, Sam Robson and Max Holden did exceedingly well to not lose their wicket. 

At the end of Day 3, Middlesex were in a spot of bother at 69/3, chasing 516 for an improbable victory. Robson was batting on 51 when the umpires took off the bails on the penultimate day. 

The opener went on to score a fighting century, reaching the three-figure mark via a boundary. His unbeaten knock of 101 came off 180 balls, which included 13 fours. Max Holden was also the embodiment of absolute patience as he saw off 115 balls for his 18.

The umpires took early lunch but unfortunately, no further play was possible.
