In a significant development, South Africa's WTC final-bound players are set to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs due to national commitment. The IPL 2025 season, which was suspended due to the India-Pakistan border conflict, is set to resume on May 17, with RCB facing KKR at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

South African Players To Miss IPL 2025 Playoffs

Cricket South Africa has finalised negotiations with the IPL, and, according to ESPNCricinfo, the South African players, who have been picked for the WTC final, will skip the playoffs.

As the report states, the WTC-bound players have been asked to reach their homeland by May 27 to link up with the Test squad before the preparation starts for the all-important clash at Lord's.

As a result, Kagiso Rabada (GT), Aiden Markram (LSG), Marco Jansen (PBKS), Tristan Stubbs (DC), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), Wiaan Mulder (SRH), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (both MI) will fly back to South Africa on the 27th before taking the field against Zimbabwe in a warm-up fixture preceding the WTC final.

However, the South Africans who aren't a part of the Test squad will stay with their respective IPL franchises until the conclusion of the tournament.

Massive Setback For MI, DC And PBKS

While Wiaan Mulder's SRH has already been eliminated from the tournament, LSG, GT, MI, DC, RCB and PBKS are alive in the playoffs race.

Mumbai Indians could massively suffer due to the South Africans' absence, as Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch have been two of their most significant overseas players this season.

Punjab Kings will also feel Marco Jansen's absence, while Tristan Stubbs's unavailability could destabilise Delhi Capitals' batting unit.
