In a significant development, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who recently earned his maiden Test call-up, is all set to make his red-ball debut for India. According to reports, he will feature against Australia in the first Test at WACA in Perth on November 22.

According to a report from Indian Express, India head coach Gautam Gambhir is impressed with Reddy's work ethic and is all set to hand him his Test debut. Pitches in Australia are known to assist the seamers with extra bouncers, and Perth is the spiciest of them all.

Reddy Considered As Fourth Bowling Option

Thus, the management is looking at Reddy as the fourth seam bowling option for India and want him to replicate a role to that of Hardik Pandya. It is worth noting that India will be without their regular skipper, Rohit Sharma for the first Test, and Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in his absence.

Nitish rose to fame during his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 where he scored 303 runs and took three wickets. However, it is worth noting that Reddy has also played first-class cricket and has a century and two fifties in 21 games. Further, he has 56 scalps to his name.

Impressive 2024 Pleases Critics

His impressive domestic year earned him his India call-up in white-ball cricket and he made his debut against Bangladesh. In that series, Reddy shone with the bat and scored a fifty in his second game for India which left the critics impressed.

It is to be seen who would be the other two seam bowling options for India alongside Bumrah as Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna are also a part of the squad.

Meanwhile, there were reports of Mohammed Shami joining the squad, but the latest reports suggest that the BCCI has asked him to play more domestic games.
